DONTMAKESENZ - a fitting monicker.

It isn’t lost on me as I listen to the opening track of the SMR PCK (SIDE B) - EP that I am listening to an artist that understands what one needs to do in order to stay relevant in the current musical climate.

This is an artist that has found comfort in stepping outside the confines of hip-hop & it is on full display on “Jiva”.

As the song title implies - this may be the one that may have the listener feeling obliged to get involved in a two-step. The hook is infectious & it is a song tailored for summer & a good time.

I can’t help but be taken back to the first time I heard “Nalingi” by Manu Worldstar. Similarly to Manu Worldstar - Senzo is able to sway between genres in a way not many acts can or are even brave enough to.

Upon reaching the end of the AmaPiano “Ang’fasi” record - my suspicion that this EP may be formatted as a showcase of Senzo’s many different faces is vindicated as we transition into “I Don’t Want That Love” which sounds like something The Weeknd would have made in his trilogy era.

“You are one of the n*** that can put trap in a rock album”

The intention becomes clear halfway through the standout track “Wide Awake” - that DONTMAKESENZ may be able to step in & out of genres like the musical chameleon that he is but Hip Hop is where he is at his strongest & this is a fact that I am sure he wouldn’t even dispute.

This appropriately titled EP is an example of what artists can do in order to position themselves for optimal commercial success.

“Look these n*** gon say that I’m turning to piano. 2025 we still bending genres.”

DONTMAKESENZ is well aware of his capabilities & I am happy to confirm that within all of his experimentation - he has succeeded in doing exactly what he initially set out to do
