After what felt like an eternity, Lookatups finally released a single of his own, titled “Try”. Forgive me, but I’ve loved the gifted musician’s discography for ages, and I was even fortunate enough to have a brief interview with him during one of my internships.
Not that the Capetonian virtuoso was completely tranquil, as he did feature on a couple of joints here and there, like his stunning feature on Fleeqy’s “3SIXTY” on the track “Lendlela”, or his performance on “SONKE” alongside Simulationrxps on his “BASED ON iWAAR” EP.
He’s been around, but a single from him is what we’ve been craving, and his listeners finally received just that.
Cover Art For “Try”
“Try” had Lookatups take on a more melodic approach with his sound, gracing his heavenly singing vocals over a choppy instrumental, guided by gloomy piano keys gently playing in the background.
The track had the musician unveil his struggles in his everyday life experiences, making us as the listener resonate with his story of constantly facing battles but always finding a way to continue fighting through them.
I loved how personal of a track this felt, a gift Lookatups has really perfected over the years. The beat, provided by the prominent DO2 and lostboywav, was an absolute joy to listen to, also mastered by the amazing bakergotthekeys. They all did a phenomenal job at bringing this tune to life.
It’s good to know Lookatups may be back to putting in the work, and I look forward to what else he has left in the vault for us to experience. For now, peep the new single, now available on multiple streaming platforms.
