Unexpectedly coming across new talents within the Cape Town music scene is always the best part of what we do, exploring fresh sounds from unfamiliar acts.

A friend of ours urged us to check out Joshua Morris, an artist we hadn’t previously heard of. It made complete sense, finding out that the newest single, “Make You Mine”, was actually his debut into the music world as a solo artist since his days of being part of IN BLOOM, the popular Capetonian band.

Kicking off with attractive drum kicks and soft enchanting bass lines, Joshua wasted no time impressing us with his smooth vocal performance, instantly having us bop our heads along with the groovy instrumental.

Joshua used this track to narrate a sorrowful tale of his struggle with hoping to be with a potential lover while coming to the realisation that it wouldn’t be possible. A fate most of us have found ourselves in.

Listening to the rest of this track was a blast, having Joshua invite us to explore his mind, unveiling his truest thoughts on the situation while letting listeners feel what he’s experiencing from his point of view.

However, the production of this track as a whole is what blew us away, having Joshua combine his soft melodies over funky bass lines, jovial synth noises lingering above the beat, and other interesting background noises that had us fully immersed in the track.

The instrumental for this track brought up happy vibes even though Joshua used this track to speak on a gloomy topic, an odd contrast. However, it’s music like this that we truly enjoy.

Peep the new single, now available on streaming platforms.
