We recently came across a new rising gem, named nexa, a talented singer who blew our minds after listening to their newest EP, “Ugli Day”.

With only three tracks on the project, each one of them displayed their incredible talents, utilizing the rawness of their vocals to carry the weight of the project over dulcet instrumentals. A well-crafted Neo-Soul experience.

The opening track, titled “Wait, what?”, told a sorrowful tale of struggling to cope with a lover, with the gifted singer continuously questioning how their lover can escape so easily and quickly. The vocal performances were stunning to listen to, with their angelic voice floating over simple bass lines and finger snaps.

The next song, named “Ugli Day”, slightly followed the same narrative, with nexa struggling to carry on without their lover, using lines like “can’t go days without you, touched up but only hungry for you”. Honestly, listening to this part had us reminiscing about the tough times of dealing with relationships, however, their performance was an absolute joy to listen to.

The final track of the project, called “You’re so Real for That”, was possibly our favourite joint on the project. What made it really special was the rawness of the whole song, with their unaltered voice harmonizing with the mellow guitar strumming in the background.

Overall, this project was a great introduction for many to experience nexa’s unique sound. We look forward to hearing more work from the rising prospect, and you can find the project on streaming platforms.
